Na passada sexta-feira fomos visitar a escola e infantário Montessori em Valmiera. Passámos a manhã com as voluntárias Diana e Marine, que vivem e trabalham na escola. Foi interessante conhecer a realidade de uma pedagogia próxima à waldorf, embora existam muitas diferenças.
Depois da visita seguimos para a fábrica da cerveja "Valmiermuižas". A nossa visita guiada começou por conhecer os ingredientes da cerveja e por prová-los. Fomos passando por todas as zonas da fábrica, desde os barris até ao ponto em que a cerveja é colocada nos barris e garrafas. Durante este tempo a nossa guia explicou-nos qual a diferença entre os vários tipos de cerveja e as temperaturas a que devem ser servidas, entre outros aspectos.
No final provamos todos os tipos de cerveja, desde a loira, preta, preta quente (para fazer em casa quando se está doente) e a de verão (com planta do sabugueiro). Além disso ainda provámos o gelado de cerveja, que é apenas feito no restaurante da fábrica.
Foi muito interessante perceber como é que esta empresa quer manter-se pequena para continuar a produzir cerveja com a qualidade e controlo, apesar de muitas vezes não ter oferta para tanta procura e não estar em todos os supermercados do país. A Valmiermuižas é das melhores que provei até hoje na Letónia, mais um item a acrescentar à óptima gastronomia letã.
Last Friday we went to visit the Montessori school and kindergarten in Valmiera. We spent the morning with Diana and Marine, the volunteers who live and work at school. It was interesting to get to know the reality of a pedagogy similar to Waldorf, although there are many differences.
After the visit we went to the beer factory "Valmiermuižas". Our tour began getting tu know the beer's ingredients and taste them. We went through all areas of the factory, from the barrels to the point where the beer is placed in casks and bottles. During this time our guide explained to us what the difference between the various types of beer and the temperatures they are served, among other things.
At the end we proved all types of beer, from light, dark, hot dark (to do at home when you are sick) and summer (with elderberry plant). We also tasted the beer ice cream, which is only served in the factory restaurant.
It was very interesting to see how this company wants to remain small to continue to produce beer with the quality and control, though often they don’t have enough response to so much demand and aren’t in every supermarket in the country. The Valmiermuižas is the best beer I tasted until today in Latvia, one more item to add to the great latvian cuisine.
