Esta semana foi o Mārtiņdiena, uma tradição semelhante ao S. Martinho português. De manhã fomos dar uma passeio por Sigulda e oferecemos velas aos locais, desejando que estejam quentes e que a luz da vela os ilumine durante o escuro Inverno que se aproxima. As crianças vestiram máscaras de animais, a maioria delas feita em casa pelos pais!
No final do dia reunímo-nos com as crianças, pais e educadores no infantário. Cada um tinha uma fonte luminosa, as lanternas que fizémos no infantário ou tochas. Fomos em procissão até ao lago perto da igreja e colocámos as lanternas numa pequena jangada de madeira, lançando-a na água. Chovia muito e estava frio mas senti-me muito aconchegado com a nossa comunidade e ao participar nesta tradição muito bonita.
This week was the Mārtiņdiena, a tradition similar to the Portuguese S. Martin. In the morning we went for a walk in Sigulda and offer candles to locals, wishing that they stay warm and the candle lights them during the dark winter approaching. The children wore animal masks, most of them made at home by their parents!
Later in the day we we met with children, parents and educators in kindergarten. Each had a light source, the lanterns that we made in kindergarten or torches. We went in procession to the lake near the church and we puted the lanterns in a small wooden raft, throwing it into the water. It rained a lot and was cold but I felt very cozy with our community and participating in this beautiful tradition.
