Saldus

É sempre bom conhecer mais pessoas e ter novas aventuras. No último fim de semana fomos a Saldus, houve um encontro de voluntários da Letónia, um evento sobre Vegan organizado pela Teodora e a comemoração do aniversário da Béatrice. Éramos bastantes voluntários, o que foi óptimo para reencontrar algumas pessoas e conhecer novas.
Pela primeira vez experimentámos ir de boleia, já que é tão usual na Letónia. Não foi muito difícil e rapidamente conseguimos boleia de Sigulda para a periferia de Riga, depois tivemos de apanhar um tram e autocarro para o local onde se apanha boleias para este, que era na direcção de Saldus. As pessoas são simpáticas e muitas vezes fazem o esforço de nos deixar um pouco mais longe do que inicialmente tinham planeado. É uma boa forma de poupar dinheiro e conhecer mais nativos! No início foi estranho estar na berma da autoestrada com os carros a passar a grande velocidade, mas não demorou muito para termos boleia.
Em Saldus vimos aferradamente o Festival da Eurovisão, coisa que nunca faria em Portugal, mas ver com pessoas de várias nacionalidades foi divertido. No dia seguinte fomos fazer uma caminhada por Saldus, que tem lagos e rios muito bonitos.

It is always good to meet more people and have new adventures. On the last weekend we went to Saldus, there was a meeting of volunteers from Latvia, an event on Vegan organized by Teodora and the commemoration of the anniversary of Béatrice. There was many volunteers, which was great to rediscover some people and meet new ones.
For the first time we tried to hitchhike, as it is so usual in Latvia. It was not too difficult and we quickly got a ride from Sigulda to the outskirts of Riga, then we had to take a tram and bus to where you catch rides for east, towards Saldus. The people are friendly and often make the effort to leave us a little further than they had originally planned. It's a good way to save money and meet more locals! At first it was strange to be on the side of the freeway with cars going at high speed, but it was not long before we got a ride.
In Saldus we saw the Eurovision Song Contest with a lot of enthusiast, something that I would never do in Portugal, but to see it with people of various nationalities was fun. The next day we went for a walk in Saldus, which has beautiful lakes and rivers.

A Festa da Andželīna

Fui convidado para fotografar a festa do dia do nome da Andželīna, uma das crianças da minha sala no infantário. A festa foi no miradouro de "Ķeizarskats", um local muito bom para ver o vale do Gauja.

Foi dos primeiros dias quentes da primavera e a luz estava tão bonita... Havia crianças, boa comida e doces, e a família e amigos da Angelina fez-me sentir como se estivesse num piquenique familiar!

Os dias estão cada vez mais longos e às 23h30 ainda há bastante luz, há mais tempo para fazer actividades lá fora como correr ou passear de bicicleta ou a pé. O verão está a chegar e o tempo está cada vez mais quente!

I was invited to photograph the name day's party of Andželīna, one of the children from my room at the kindergarten. The party was at the "Ķeizarskats" viewpoint, a very beautiful place to see the Gauja's valey. It was one of the first hot days of spring and the light was so beautiful... There were children, good food and sweets, and Angelina's family and friends made me feel like I was in a family picnic!

The days are getting bigger and at 23h30 there is still a lot of light, there's more time to do activities outside like running, and take bike or walking strolls. The summer is coming and the weather is getting warmer!

Arrival Training

No passado fim de semana tivemos o nosso Arrival Training. Aprendemos sobre o que é o Serviço de Voluntariado Europeu e o que significa ser voluntário. Falámos sobre desafios no voluntariado e os processos de planeamento de actividades nas nossas organizações. Éramos 5 voluntários (Portugal, Roménia, Espanha, Itália e França), foi muito bom conhecer novos voluntários e fazer paralelismo entre as nossas culturas e línguas. A comida e o alojamento foram óptimos e o sítio onde ficámos era muito bonito. As nossas formadoras, Natalia e Liga, foram espectaculares e esclareceram todas as nossas dúvidas, além de nos proporcionar 4 dias de grande aprendizagem. Também houve oportunidade de criar novos laços com os nossos mentores e de aprender a fazer a típica lasanha italiana e crepes franceses. Na actividade que tínhamos de planear fomos até ao centro de Riga e oferecemos às pessoas flores de papel e música! Aproximam-se novas aventuras!

On the last weekend we had our arrival training. We learned about what is the European Voluntary Service and what means to be a volunteer. We talked about challenges in volunteering and the processes of activities planing in our organizations. We were 5 volunteers (Portugal, Romania, Spain, Italy and France), it was very good to get to know new volunteers and do parallelisms between our cultures and languages. The food and accommodation were very good and the place were we stayed was very beautiful. Our trainers, Nartalia and Liga, were amazing and clarified all our doubts, besides providing with 4 days of big learning. There was also opportunity to create new ties with out mentors and to learn how to make the typical Italian lasagne and french crepes. At the activity that we had to plan we went to center of Riga and offered to people paper flowers and music. New adventures are coming!
