SkirtBike Sigulda

No dia 22 de Agosto foi o primeiro SkirtBike Sigulda, organizado pela Alina. Eu estive a fotografar e filmar o evento e ajudei nos preparativos. O SkirtBike foi originalmente criado na Roménia em 2010 e tem subido a sua popularidade ao longo dos anos. Como o nome indica, o evento convida as mulheres e raparigas a trazerem as suas bicicletas e o dress code é saia ou vestido. Isto não significa que os homens não possam participar. Aqui em Sigulda tivemos a participação de várias famílias do infantário e habitantes de Sigulda e ainda dois amigos, também voluntários na Letónia, a Georgiana e o Andres (que vestiu uma saia muito elegante).

No final do percurso houve lanche e fogueira no infantário. Não pode faltar o canto das fotografias para quem quisesse levar uma recordação para o futuro. Depois do evento disseram-nos no infantário que para o ano querem continuar com a tradição, e ainda bem, porque o ambiente foi óptimo e as pessoas estavam felizes e a divertir-se!

On the 22n of August was the first SkirtBike Sigulda, organized by Alina. I photographed and filmed the event and helped in the preparations. The SkirtBike was originally created in Romania in 2010 and has been rising to its popularity over the years. As the name implies, the event invites women and girls to bring their bikes and the dress code is a skirt or a dress. This does not mean that men can not participate. Here in Sigulda we had the participation of several families from the kindergarten and inhabitants of Sigulda and also two friends, also volunteers in Latvia, Georgian and Andres (who wore a very elegant skirt).

At the end of the route there was a snack and fire at the kindergarten. There was also a photography corner for those who wanted to take a souvenir for the future. After the event they told us at the kindergarten that they want to maintain the tradition and repeat the event next year, thankfully, because the atmosphere was great and the people were happy and having fun!

Tallinn & Helsínquia

Depois de Sigulda fomos até Riga e visitámos a Laura, uma rapariga Letã que fez erasmus com a Joana em 2011. Foi um reencontro muito bom, fomos muito bem recebidos com boas cervejas e uma refeição típica Letã preparada pela Laura.

Na manhã seguinte partímos em direcção a Tallinn. Ficámos surpreendidos quando procurávamos um sítio para almoçar, que era tudo muito mais caro do que a Letónia ou Lituânia. Depois de encontrar um sítio para almoçar fomos até ao miradouro de onde se vê a toda a cidade. É uma cidade muito calma e mais uma vez, com muito contacto com a natureza. 

O dia seguinte foi passado em Helsínquia. Depois de atravessámos o Báltico visitámos algumas catedrais e igrejas e fomos ao mercado da cidade. Imaginava Helsínquia mais pitoresca e menos industrial mas mesmo assim gostei do estilo de vida da cidade. Nota-se que tudo está muito mais organizado e limpo e que todos respeitam o espaço público.

Viajámos por cinco países e sete cidades durante duas semanas, principalmente porque viajar nestes países é muito barato e há sempre promoções a decorrer. É sempre bom viajar com a Joana e descobrirmos novas coisas juntos, é completamente diferente do que se visitasse estas cidades sozinho.

Agora consigo distinguir melhor entre os 3 países do Báltico, tanto em relação à gastronomia como um pouco da cultura de cada país. Algumas das cidades quero visitar mais vezes, porque há sempre algo a descobrir.

No infantário estamos na semana de limpeza geral, não há crianças e estamos a raspar as tintas das mesas e tabuleiros, lavar tudo e passar a ferro. Está a ser muito cansativo mas é importante ter tudo pronto para o início do ano, na próxima semana.

After Sigulda we went to Riga and visited Laura, a Latvian girl who did erasmus with Joana in 2011. It was a great reunion, were very well hosted with good beers and a typical Latvian meal prepared by Laura.

The next morning we travelled towards Tallinn. We were surprised when we were looking for a place for lunch, it was all much more expensive than Latvia or Lithuania. Once we found a place for lunch we went to the viewpoint from where you can see the whole city. It is a very quiet town and once again, with very contact with nature.

The following day was spent in Helsinki. After we crossed the Baltic we visited some cathedrals and churches and went to the city market. I Helsinki imagined more picturesque and less industrial but still liked the city lifestyle. We noted that everything is much more organized and clean and that everyone respects the public space.

We traveled for five countries and seven cities for two weeks, mainly because travel in these countries is very cheap and there are always promotions going on. It is always good to travel with Joana and discover new things together, is completely different from visiting these cities alone.

Now I can better distinguish between the three Baltic countries, both in terms of gastronomy as a bit of the culture of each country. Some of the cities I want to visit more often, because there is always something to discover.

In the kindergarten is the week of general cleaning, there are no children and we are scraping the paint from the tables and trays, washing and ironing. It has been very tiring, but it is important to have everything ready for the start of the year, next week.

Sigulda com a Joana

Depois de uma curta e chuvosa paragem em Kaunas viemos para Sigulda. Visitámos Turaida, Krimulda, as grutas, os parques e os lagos. Cada vez que visito os mesmos sítios descubro sempre algo de novo, e a paisagem está sempre em mudança. Uma das paragens obrigatória foi também o infantário, já tinha saudades das crianças e estava ansioso que a Joana os conhecesse.

No fim de semana convidei os voluntários da Letónia e os nossos colegas de casa para virem à minha festa de aniversário, no infantário. Foi tão bom receber amigos de todos os cantos da Letónia, estarmos sentados na relva a beber uma cerveja e a conversar. Houve boa comida e um bolo também e claro, música muito variada, pois cada um quer mostrar aos outros o que gosta.

No final da noite fizémos uma fogueira e recebi prendas tão boas dos voluntários, que levarei comigo para Portugal.

_ No dia do meu aniversário fui recebido no infantário de braços abertos pelas crianças, a Alina e as educadoras. Havia balões e recebi prendas de todos. Fizémos o meu bolo todos juntos, que é sempre divertido, as crianças vão comendo os ingredientes à medida que o fazemos, mas no final todos têm direito a uma fatia. Foi um dia que irei recordar, senti-me muito feliz por estar aqui, a partilhar esta experiência com estas pessoas.

After a short and rainy stop in Kaunas we came to Sigulda. We visited Turaida, Krimulda, the caves, parks and lakes. Each time I visit the same sites I always discover something new, and the landscape is always changing. One of the mandatory stops was also the kindergarten, I missed the children and was anxious that Joana knew them.

Over the weekend I invited some volunteers from Latvia and our housemates to come to my birthday party at the kindergarten. It was so good to receive friends from all corners of Latvia, we were sitting on the grass drinking a beer and talking. There was good food and a cake too and of course, very diverse music, because each one wants to show th others what they like.

Later that night we made a fire, and I received such good gifts of volunteers who will take with me to Portugal.

_ On the day of my birthday I was received with open arms at the kindergarten by the children, Alina and the educators. There were balloons and I received gifts from all. We made my cake all together, which is always fun, the kids eat the ingredients as we cook, but in the end everyone is entitled to a slice. It was a day I will remember, I felt very happy to be here, to share this experience with these people.
